Constant force springs

Constant force springs from stock

1.4310 stainless steel

Constant force springs are formed from steel strip into a tightly wound coil. The springs are used for a linear movement and generate an almost constant force over the entire extension length. They can be used individually or in combination with several springs. Do you have any questions? We will be pleased to advise you.

Fatigue strength

Constant-force springs are changed from a round to a straight shape during use. The resulting bending stresses lead to a relatively shortened service life when compared to a conventional compression spring, because a wire is subject to more favourable shear stresses.

A constructive extension of the service life leads to unrealistically thin materials and associated component enlargements, with simultaneously considerably reducing forces, which would nevertheless not provide for a significant increase in the fatigue strength of the bending spring.

The service life of 15,000 or 40,000 load cycles specified in our load changes for certain constant force springs, can therefore not be significantly increased. For short strokes, a spring can be used several times during service intervals by repositioning (i.e. by removing the used spring section).
